HOW IT ALL STARTED: 1993
TV Asia was founded as Asian Broadcasting Network (ABN) by legendary Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan, marking the birth of the first coast-to-coast South Asian television channel in the U.S.

1997 – A New Chapter
TV Asia was acquired by H.R. Shah, a prominent Indian American entrepreneur and community leader, under Asia Star Broadcasting Inc.
New broadcast studios, technical operations, and administrative offices were established in Edison, New Jersey.


1998 – Expanding Nationwide
TV Asia signed a national cable distribution deal with International Media Distribution (IMD). It also launched on DISH Network, becoming the first South Asian channel on a DTH (Direct-to-Home) satellite platform in the U.S.
2005 – National Recognition
Chairman & CEO H.R. Shah received the prestigious Ellis Island Medal of Honor for his contributions to community and media.

2009 – New Carriers, Wider Reach
TV Asia launched on Verizon FiOS and AT&T U-verse, expanding its digital footprint in South Asian households across the U.S.

2016 – Streaming Era Begins
TV Asia embraced the digital shift with launches on IPTV, SLING TV, and World BBTV, increasing accessibility for younger and tech-savvy audiences.

2017 – Honored by India
H.R. Shah was awarded the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award, by the Government of India for his service to media and community development.

2018 – Academic Distinction
Chairman H.R. Shah was conferred an honorary doctorate by a leading Indian university, recognizing his contributions to media and philanthropy.

2020 – International Expansion
TV Asia expanded to Canada, launching on five major platforms: Rogers, Rogers Ignite TV, Bell Fibe, Telus, and Cogeco.

2023 – Celebrating 30 Years
TV Asia marked its 30th anniversary, celebrating three decades of connecting South Asian communities through news, culture, and storytelling.

2024 – Bringing Stories Home
TV Asia launched in India on JioTV and JioTV+, bringing South Asian American voices and stories back to their roots — reaching viewers across the subcontinent.
